Pookot Lake-Wayanad

Pookot Lake is a beautiful fresh water lake which is situated near the entrance of Wayanad when we are coming from Calicut side .The main attraction in Pookot lake is the boating.A walk through the surrounding mountains and the thick vegetation by the side of the lake gives us a calm and peaceful experience. The boat ride is a good experience. Some parts of the lake are really very deep. The Water depth comes to around 6.5 meters It is a place which gets large number of rainfalls in India.

It is situated at an altitude of two thousand meters above sea level. While we enjoy the ride through the lake we can see lots of flowers in the lake, especially lotus and water lilies. The lake is the abode of a wide variety of aquatic animals. Some common creatures found are fishes, tadpoles and some water snakes. The lake covers an area of 5 square kilometres.Once we complete our boat ride ,we can do a mini shopping at the handicraft and spices shop near the lake which is maintained by the Tourism Department of Wayanad District. There is a Children’s Park where kids can have fun. There is an aquarium also situated nearby. So rush to the most sought after tourist place, a paradise on earth
